da esport bet： It seems that Arsenal has yet again unearthed another media orator in their ranks by the name of Andrey Arshavin.
It was reported earlier this week that the diminutive Russian had expressed his desire and admiration to one day play for the Spanish giants Barcelona, saying ‘it would be the peak of my career’…Wenger would have been bemused with his player’s comments, and the clubs fans will not be too happy either. Certainly the proverb ‘don’t bite the hand that feeds you’ comes to mind.
It is not the first time that the Russian international has drawn criticism from his manager. In the past, Arshavin has questioned the clubs direction and ambitions in what has been a frustrating season for the gunners (many would think otherwise). The Arsenal boss is said to be disappointed with Arshavin’s approbation shown to the Catalan club, as it shows disrespect towards his current employers and fans. Wenger wants his entire squad to respect their club and their rules and regulations. By praising other clubs and spouting to the media about possible moves, they are not keeping to the manager’s wishes.
Wenger stated in the Guardian yesterday that his team must totally be committed to Arsenal football club:
“Yes, I am very disappointed because he shows a completely different attitude,” said Wenger. “He wants to extend his contract with us and stay with us, so the noise coming out of Russia is very difficult to explain”
Wenger goes on to say:
“He looks to be very happy here, so you should ask him where it comes from. We do not, of course, accept that. When you are at Arsenal, you are at Arsenal. When you are somewhere else, you are somewhere else. I believe that your pride makes first that you defend your club”
So do Arsenal have another ‘trouble-maker’ within their platoon? Wenger is no stranger to these types of situations, having had the same problems in the past with several other players such as Emmanuel Adebayor, Patrick Vieira and Jose Antonio Reyes. Arshavin failed to help his country qualify for the world cup finals after being knocked out in the play-offs by Slovenia last year. The Russian would have loved to be playing in South Africa this summer, but the reality is he won’t be, and possibly because of this his mood has transformed over time. A majority of Arsenal fans reading this will agree that the number 23 ace has not shown the same willpower he did in his previous season. Many will feel that footballers sign a contract for a reason and should abide by it. Footballer’s remonstrating against their proprietors is viewed by many as wrong and shouldn’t be done. However, should we be giving Arshavin the benefit of the doubt?
Arshavin has been out of action with a calf injury he picked up when they hosted Barcelona at the Emirates stadium in the champion’s league quarter final first leg. He has managed to make 24 appearances in the premiership this season, whilst collecting 9 goals along the way. Many Arsenal fans will question the player’s loyalty and aspirations after the Russians recent outburst, but should they take a step back and analyze the situation more carefully before jumping to any conclusion? The Russian media may have twisted and warped the words of the 5’ 8’’ Arsenal man; Wenger may believe this to be the case for Arshavin. Speaking to the Guardian yesterday, Wenger said:
“I take with a little bit of distance what comes back translated sometimes with the help of some agents who want to move the players”.
Reports have emerged today suggesting that Andrey Arshavin believes to have been lost in translation, claiming the Russian media had misquoted him, and in doing so, blown the whole issue out of proportion. Arshavin is said to be feeling ‘unpleasant’ after his words, had been ‘translated wrongly’. Arsenal’s Russian playmaker appears to be happy at Arsenal and remains adamant that the reports have been misinterpreted completely.
He told sky sports today:
“If I talk to the English press, there is no problem, but when I say something in Russia, some special news agency takes it, translates it and sells these quotes. During the process of interpretation they translate my words as they see fit. I find this unpleasant. People might think I said something that, in fact, I never said.”
Arshavin finished off by adding,
“I respect the club and I am happy that I am a part of it. I am very grateful to the Arsenal fans, who love me.”
The player’s latest comments will no doubt be music to both Wenger and the fans ears. This latest escapade just goes to show and reinforce the proverb: ‘don’t put the cart before the horse’.
